Artist's Statement
My new body of work draws viewers into an imagined celestial realm filled with luminous color and rhythmic movement. Through biomorphic forms, chromatic modulation, and concentric rays of light, I evoke the ancient philosophical idea that the movement of heavenly bodies creates a universal harmony known as the “music of the spheres.”
Boston arts writer Cate McQuaid described this musical quality in her April 2025 Substack essay: “Diane paints in warm, singing tones, nesting and looping turquoises and ambers, amethyst and limes in voluptuous, curving forms. Her paintings feel generous and slow, as if she’s listening to the gurgles of a deep underground well.”
My process mirrors this sense of fluidity and resonance. Working with slow drying acrylic mediums, I paint wet into wet to create subtle gradations and dimensional forms that appear to radiate from within. Layered translucent glazes and daring combinations of color bring a sense of joy, buoyancy, and surprise to the canvases.
