Artist's Statement
Diama Ndati is a multidisciplinary artist and fashion designer whose work moves between painting, photography, textile art, and wearable design. Her practice explores African identity, femininity, and memory through material, gesture, and transformation.
Trained as a biochemist, she bridges science and art by developing natural dye processes that protect both artisans and the environment. Her textile work includes tie and dye, hand embroidery, beading, crochet, and drawing on fabric—each technique used as a language of storytelling.
Her paintings and photographic work extend this exploration, capturing the invisible dimensions of womanhood, spirituality, and societal narratives. Across mediums, her work reflects a deep sensitivity to the body, emotion, and cultural memory.
As a fashion designer, she creates pieces that exist between garment and artwork. Using handwoven African textiles such as Bogolan, Aso Oke, and Kente, she reinterprets ancestral craftsmanship into contemporary forms. Each piece is conceived as a living object—carrying the trace of the hand, time, and culture.
Her work stands in contrast to fast fashion, proposing instead a thoughtful and intentional approach to creation. Many pieces are produced in limited quantities, emphasizing craftsmanship, sustainability, and meaning.
Through NDATI, Diama Ndati creates a dialogue between past and present, offering a powerful and contemporary vision of worldwide creativity—where art, fashion, and identity become one.
