Paintings of local scenes

Artist's Statement
I like painting what I see around me: local urban landscape scenes, my children, and the sky.
As I walk around the neighborhoods of Somerville, Cambridge, and Boston, I see ordinary urban spots that, though somewhat gritty, become transcendent by particular casts of light and shadow at different times of the day. These everyday places become alive with beauty and meaning, as so many things align to create a special, localized moment in time.
I have also been abstracting clouds through a mixture of mediums, in an effort to highlight the transient yet vast presence of the sky’s splendor. Each painting captures a specific moment in time where the light, wind and clouds harmonize. The addition of lines serve to emphasize the sky’s boundless presence above human architecture.
