Artist's Statement

Susan Clark investigates intuition, symbolism and inner consciousness through the use of various materials in both two and three dimensions. She is deeply curious about how these materials can express the deep mystery of how life comes forward and becomes known.

The variuous processes, tools and materials she uses include calligraphic ink brush painting, collage, sewn collage, mono printing using gel plates, painting, sewn collage papers using sewing machines, acrylic, spray paints, mark making media, all kinds of papers, and cloth. She is also very interested in narrative, symbolic images, book making forms and ancient letter and mark making.

At various times during the year she leads workshops on the nature of play and creative freedom. These workshops offer various expressive techniques such as working with gel plate printing and collage as tools for nurturing spontaneity and free flow, expressive painting for moving through creative blocks.
